I worked for the Alutiiq Museum and Archaeological Repository in Kodiak, Alaska, for five years. One of the many hats I wore was exhibit designer and fabricator. The “before” image is what the exhibition space looked like when I arrived. The “after” is as it looked as I left. I am very proud of the dramatic changes we were able to achieve in such a short span of time. I am especially proud of the exhibit case detailing the culture through time. I designed and fabricated everything inside from the supports to the brass artifact mounts. I hope the exhibit serves the Museum well for years to come.
Atmosphere on a Small Budget:
These are slides from a Powerpoint presentation I gave at the 2014 Museums Alaska / Alaska Historical Society annual joint conference in Seward, Alaska.
The goal was to discuss / show how small museums can make powerful changes to their exhibition spaces with a small amount of money (such as the cost of paint and rearranging their space). I also explained how to get ideas – which is often the hardest part of any design.
